A Little Guide To Botox Injections
Botox treatments are a great way to erase temporarily fine lines and wrinkles from your face. This is an easy, quick and relatively painless procedure, which does not need any recovery time. However, you need to be aware that the effects of Botox are only temporary, so you will need continuous treatment.
The active ingredient of Botox injections is a substance called botulinum toxin A. This is a neurotoxin made by Clostridium botulinum. These toxins can attack the nervous system, and cause paralysis, and in serious cases, it can be deadly. However in the 1970s scientists found a way to use the toxin in therapy. With botulinum toxin A, a number of nervous system disorders can be treated. While Botox has a number of medical uses, the substance became notorious as an anti-aging treatment for both men and women. The reason for this is that Botox injections can make the deep frown lines between the eyes disappear. Many people believe that Botox injections actually paralyze the muscles in one’s face, but this is not entirely true: the substance only relaxes the muscles, making frowning or unconscious grimacing harder.
Botulinum toxin, the main ingredient of Botox injections, is a crystal. These crystals are dissolved using a liquid that is usually saline. The patient’s face is carefully cleaned and local anesthetic is applied before the injection. After a few minutes, as the anesthetic takes effect, the doctor prepares the Botox injection and injects it.
Afterwards, the patient needs to sit in a semi upright position for a few minutes. The doctor makes sure that the patient is okay. The patient should not lie down a couple of hours: this way the substance will not drift into a different area of the patient’s face. Taking certain medication, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, should be also avoided, and no hard exercise is allowed in the first hours after the treatment.
The first effects of Botox injections can be seen in 3-10 days. The deep lines across the patient’s forehead will not be gone forever, but will be reduced considerably. The small lines between your eyes will be gone for a while.
