West Ridge Academy Says That Good Movies Can Have A Positive Effect On Children
West Ridge Academy says that although most of our movies today are loaded with way too much violence and sexual content than ever before, there are still some that can be considered appropriate for viewing by children especially if they are viewed with the supervision of their parents.
Kids can be very impressionable especially at a certain age while movies also have the unique ability to connect with them on an emotional and psychological level, hence it is extremely crucial for parents to pick the right films to be viewed by their children.
Not all movies are bad however since there are still some film makers who continue to produce relevant, educational and age-appropriate content fit for children audiences everywhere. As per West Ridge Academy, said movies will definitely make quite an impression on your children. How, you may ask? Hmm, let’s enumerate the ways.
Besides their parents, kids are usually in search for other role models, which they may find in the movies they are watching. Therefore, it’s crucial that parents sit down with their kids when they are watching movies so that they will have immediate access to their parents in case they will have something to ask or want to be clarified with, otherwise they may misinterpret some of the actions and traits shown on screen and will apply them in real life without really knowing their implications. If the parents are there to immediately explain to their kids every time they ask questions related to the movie, then there will be no room for misinterpretation on the movie’s message whatsoever. An additional benefit is that this time spent with your children will allow you to bond even more with them and strengthen your communication lines in the process.
Good movies can influence your children to be more inquiring and sharpen their problem-solving skills. In fact, some of our current children movies are actually loaded with way more twists and turns in their plots as compared to the children movies of previous years. This could be due to the fact that film makers nowadays may be giving more credit to kids in terms of smarts and they are realizing that kids no longer want the dull storylines of previous children movies, but they would actually want to be challenged and think for themselves if given the opportunity through a good old fashioned detective or mystery movie for example. Do not let this opportunity go to waste by not being there to watch a good old sleuth mystery movie with them. Watch age-appropriate mystery movies with your children and welcome the opportunity to answer their questions as the movie goes along. A good film will pique their interest so much that they will be constantly engaged all throughout the movie while making predictions for the events in the story, analyzing and trying to solve some of the problems presented, compare and contrast different events and characters, make some conclusions on their own, and so on and so forth. Take note that these are all valuable life skills which they may have not developed that easily in other less enjoyable atmosphere.
According to West Ridge Academy, good films can influence your kids to pick up some books and do a little bit of research. If the movie that you are watching is based on a popular book, your children may be encouraged to pick up the book version in his desire to learn more about the favorite characters and places that he saw in the movie. This could lead to a robust reading habit for your kid which should be a welcome development for you as books offer way more useful information than a movie ever could. The movie will only serve as a visual stimulus to pique his curiosity and awaken his enthusiasm towards certain topics or characters. With his appetite for knowledge already awakened, he may even decide to read more books on other topics which will rouse his interest and then his thirst for reading will basically evolve from there.
