Drug Rehab And Ways To Avoid A Relapse
Well done! You have just successfully finished your drug rehab program. Now you are ready to go out there, face the world, and exclaim, “I’m a new man!” However, the road to recovery is full of bumps and holes. Sooner or later, the craving will start again. If you fall in to the temptation, you may suffer a relapse, or a slip. Without intervention, that relapse may result in full drug addiction, and the cycle of rehabilitation starts again.
Here are practical ways on how to avoid relapse after drug rehab and stay away from dangerous drugs for good.
1. Acquire a hobby.
A relapse usually happens because there is nothing for you to do. You become bored, and to stave off boredom, you begin thinking of taking a dose. A better way is to acquire a hobby. There are many to choose from—model building, shell collecting, writing poetry, gardening, etc. A hobby keeps you busy and improves your physical and mental skills.
2. Join a sport.
A sport allows you to undertake healthier, more social activities. This is a better way to recover rather than sulk around and being alone to think about what you’ve done in the past. Joining a sport allows you to exercise your body, boost your mental abilities, socialize with sportsmen and like-minded people, and have fun. Basketball, baseball, cricket, and track-and-field are good examples of sport activities that you can start with.
3. Witness, discover, and explore nature.
Your drug rehab program may have included a short walk into the woods. That’s because nature can relax the mind. Climbing mountains, trekking by a river, watching birds, witnessing sunsets, and bathing under a waterfall does wonders in opening the mind and letting you realize that there are so many things to explore. Nature can somehow show you that you can be more than you can be. Nature is spiritual, uplifting, and powerful. Take advantage of it to prevent a relapse.
4. Join an outreach program.
One of the most powerful deterrents of a relapse is joining a program or activity which allows you to help other people. Feeding, livelihood projects, tree planting, and volunteering will help you keep busy and opens up a new world for you.
