A Weight Loss Journey

I knew that my health was in trouble. The news was not good. High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and joint pain were all the causes of being overweight. Most of these maladies can be avoided if a person takes the time to treat their body right. Doctors can prescribe drugs that can take care of the symptoms that arise, but in order to truly fix the problem, the weight must go.

The difficult thing is to figure out how to change the way we are living to regain a healthy body. There is a big difference between saying that it is time to get healthy and fit and taking the time and effort to really putting forth the effort required. What we were trying to accomplish is not different from what others are also trying to accomplish. There are many different methods that will enable a person to get rid of the unhealthy pounds. It’s hard to watch television without seeing a commercial that promises to show you how to lose weight fast. A diet and exercise plan needs to be developed for an individual not for a group in general. You have to sift through all the information to find a plan that is the right fit for you. It is important to be comfortable with the plan that you choose. Many people have schedules that are already crowded and find it difficult to create any time to spend on a fitness program that demands the person to exercise for a period of time on a daily basis. There are diets that require a significant outlay of money and that can also be an obstacle that has to be overcome. With a little work it is possible to find a plan that fits the person.

One of the most important things to do is to be realistic about your plans. No one woke up in the morning and found out that they had gained all the extra pounds while they were sleeping. You can’t start an exercise program by doing six pack ab exercises for six hours a day and if you don’t set realistic goals to achieve and go about reaching them in a reasonable way, than you won’t succeed in your weight loss plan. By thinking realistically, a person will find themselves more able to stick with a diet and fitness program.

It is helpful when you don’t enter into this journey alone. The more people that are around to offer support, the harder it is to give up when your feel as if you are failing. By not going it alone, you can rely on others to pick you up and pull you through the tough times that lie ahead. Another person can help you to avoid the pitfalls that always seem to crop up. Friends and family offer great support, but there are also other places to get that support such as websites like the biggest loser forum that offer diet tips, lifestyle tips and chat rooms where you can discuss issues that you are facing. When you are able to discuss the issues that arise during the diet, other people can give you a new perspective on those issues and make them seem not as important. A workout buddy can also be helpful. When you have someone to workout with, you can find yourself accomplishing more than you would have without them. It is easier to give up your exercise plan when you are by yourself than it is when you are exercising with others.

When everything is considered, it is not needed to understand why someone makes the decision to begin a diet and exercise program. By living a healthier lifestyle , I have a better opportunity to spend more time with the people that I love. If I continued to live as I did, that might not happen But by working at it on a daily basis we were able to return to that doctor and within a year be told that we were well on our way to a much longer and healthier life. But the most important message we were given was to never quit.
