Oil – Is it Really the Most Valuable Substance on Earth?

We hear about oil virtually every day, as we’re constantly being made aware of its changing prices. Our society relies heavily on oil. Oil companies can do anything they want in regards to the prices since they have such a monopoly. People cut back on buying gas as much as possible, but it still takes a certain amount to power our country. Some parts of the country are expected to face record gasoline prices as they’re expected to go over $5.00 in some areas. No wonder oil has been called “black gold”, and everyone considers it one of our most important commodities. Oil has received so many headlines that most members of society aren’t even aware that another resource is in grave danger of going away, a resource that is even more important than oil.

Water has certainly taken a backseat to oil over the years, and most people don’t even recognize it as one of our most precious resources. As long as we all can remember, we’ve just had to turn on a tap to gain access to all of the clean, fresh drinking water we need. With vast amounts of water everywhere, it doesn’t cross people’s minds that our water resources are constantly getting smaller and the trend isn’t expected to reverse itself.

According to studied conducted by the United Nations, at least 48 countries will entirely run out of fresh water supplies by 2050. If you know anything about world geography, then you’ll see that our planet is made up almost entirely of water, but 98 percent of this water is unusable saltwater. Of the 2-3% that is fresh water, the majority of it is contained within the polar ice caps and glaciers.

According to global warming proponents, the ice caps will melt as the temperatures rise, but this won’t increase our water supply unfortunately. Fresh water produced by melting ice caps will simply make its way to saltwater sources which will render it unusable by us. Once the ice caps melt, the ocean levels will rise and possibly overtake fresh water sources that are located too close to the coast which will make the problem even worse. Our supplies can actually be decreased thanks to the ice caps melting. While our water supplies are constantly getting smaller, the world’s population is constantly growing which only exacerbates the problem. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
