Drug Rehab Experts Unveil Secrets To Staying Awake Longer

When a person uses illegal substances, his family usually sends him to a drug rehab institution to treat his addiction. In this facility, specialists introduce detoxifying, counseling, and other methods so the patient will recover from his addiction. If all goes well, the individual will be released, ready to face a brand-new world.

However, what initially caused the addiction? There are plenty of reasons, but a seemingly trivial one is the need to combat sleepiness. A manager may sniff two lines of cocaine so he can stay awake to finish an important business plan to the board of directors. A student may drink five cups of espresso to avoid falling fast asleep so he could prepare for an important exam. A night owl may partake in drugs so he can stay all night to party with buddies.

According to drug rehab experts, there are healthier ways to conquer sleepiness without the help of drugs. Here are a few of them.

1. Stay in a cool place. Warm, cuddly environments usually causes mental fatigue which makes you sleepy and tired. Stay awake by decreasing your air-conditioning system’s temperature or sitting under an air-conditioning vent.

2. Splash some cold water on strategic areas on your body, specifically your face and the pulse area of your wrist. You can also gulp ice-cold water often to help keep you awake although you have to be ready for frequent bathroom breaks.

3. Do some light exercises such as taking a walk, running, for a few minutes, doing sit-ups, or jumping a few times. Exercise warms the blood and quickens the body and mind.

4. If for some reason you are unable to exercise, chew some sugar-free peppermint gum. Chewing gum enables you to do some sort of physical activity to keep awake.

5. Take a breather and treat yourself to a good laugh. Watch a funny video clip, or read a few pages of a funny comic book. Laughter energizes the mind and enables you to stay awake longer.

6. Listen to fast, beat music such as disco, reggae, or heavy metal.
