Old Man’s B-day Is An Anual Problem
Every year my father’s birthday rolls around and I’m presented with the same old problem, but before I get into that I should tell you a little about my dad. Dad doesn’t have cash to toss around on just whatever, but if there is something he wants he doesn’t hesitate to go buy it for himself. He’s working in the garage and needs a wrench so he goes out and buys a wrench. This sounds like it’s a good thing, but it always makes it hard to think of good gift ideas for him. This year I spent a lot of time thinking so I could get the best gift possible for this amazing man. I work really hard every year so again this year I’ll put in some major effort.
To really get the whole picture of my father I guess you need to know the sad fact that he’s quite overweight and out of shape. He has a horrible diet full of junk that only a 3 year old would want, he drinks more beer than a football team, and he’s rather spend a day in front of the TV then doing much else. I worry a lot about his weight because who knows if he will make it to see my first child get born or my graduation. Anyway all that got me thinking that I could get some inspiration by asking my friend, who is a personal trainer, for some true weight loss tips. It really paid off that I asked because he told me some very useful information on things you can do for people who aren’t in shape. I want to help my dad get in shape so he can be around forever.
He started out by telling me the standard stuff one would expect like getting a good diet and exercise. When I inquired about quick fixes like supplements he was quick to caution me against them. After I asked he let me know that they are for bodybuilders and athletes, neither of which describe my dad. The weight loss supplements are basically a sham, containing little more then herbs my grandmother keeps for cooking in the cupboards. What I was really interested in was his suggested was that I look into some exercise equipment. Following some research that I did, I could tell this was a smart idea for a gift for this years birthday. It might not be a present he wants, but it’s definitely something he needs. I just really hope my dear dear father has a great birthday.
